Jaipur Junction - Hudson

Jaipur Junction is located in the Acme Plaza in Hudson.  They advertise Northern Indian food.  I am not sure of the difference.  It is not a very large place, but colorfuly decorated.  We both ordered things we typically get, but the menu had lots of other options.  I got the lamb Rogan Josh.  It was very good, probably the best I have had.  The lamb was tender and there was plenty of sauce to soak my rice.  I ordered the Medium heat, but either got mild, or it's a very mild medium.  I might see if they can do Med-Hot next time.  TBG got Lamb Vindaloo in Hot.  It was much hotter than mine.  It was also very good.  We got 2 orders of Naan, which was just enough.  We also got a Mango Lassi (mandatory for me to eat all those hot Indian spices).  It was so good I almost finished it before my food came!  The server was a little different, but the service was quick.  It was not busy when we were there but a few people that had ordered ahead came in for pickup.  We will definately be back.

Saffron Patch - Akron

So I have been unable to quench my craving for Indian since I first realized I like it.  Here is another Indian place in the Akron area.  This one is in the Merriman Valley with all the bars.  The decor is nice, clean and Indian feeling.  Some tables had curtains hanging in front of them.  The service was prompt and helpful.  We got some fried tortilla like things with two dips when we sat down.  The one dip was good, like a BBQ sauce, the other was a cilantro dip that I did not care for but TBG liked.  We ordered the mango yogurt drink (lassi) and it was delicious.  It went perfectly with the spicy entrees we ordered.  We ordered the chili pakodas with a mango chutney for a starter.  They were not too hot, but were good.  Very much like jalapeno poppers at American places.  TBG got the lamb vindaloo which was ok.  The sauce was good, but the meat was rather tough.  It had an acceptable spice level and was overall an average dish.  I got the lamb rogan josh.  It was also an acceptable spice level and a good taste, but the lamb again was fatty and tough.  The portions were large and came with saffron rice.  We also ordered 2 orders of naan, one regular and one garlic.  The prices were a little bit high for the quality of food.  All in all there are better places to get Indian in Akron.

Raj Mahal - Cuyahoga Falls

I am happy to say I am no longer afraid of Indian food, in fact I am starting to love it.  I had an idea of what I wanted when I walked in the door, and I loved what I got.  I was not that hungry so we skipped the appetizer even though there were plenty of yummy looking options.  They do not serve beer, but you can bring your own.  The atmosphere is almost nonexistent.  White, dirty walls with vinyl covered tables.  I would recommend carry out for the skittish.  TBG got the spicy lamb vindaloo.  It was very good, too spicy for me but he loved it.  There was plenty to fill TBG up.  It comes with potatoes in the sauce with the lamb, but he asked for it with less than normal.  All the dishes come with basmati rice which was cooked well and there was plenty of it.  I got the chana marsala.  It was vegetarian with chick peas and no meat in a tomato based sauce.  I ordered it medium and it was perfect.  It was exactly what I wanted.  I love the warm Indian spices of cumin, cinnamon, and coriander.  We got two orders of naan which was exactly enough.  One order was garlic as you can see in the picture, and the other plain.  Both were awesome as any bread cooked perfectly is.  The prices were a little steep, but the food was really good so I would definitely go back (or have TBG go back and bring it home!)  I ate the rest of my chana masala the next day and it was still delicious.

Cafe Tandoor - Aurora

I have never eaten at an Indian restaurant and was eager to try.  I wanted something not too intimidating.
Cafe Tandoor was perfect.  Located in the Barrington Town Center it offers carry out.  We started out with the samosas.  Filled with lamb, cashews, raisins and peas it was good with the provided sauces.  We  couldn't decide what to get next so we ordered from two sections of the menu.  We got the mixed grill and the lamb curry called Rogan Josh.  We also got a side of saffron rice and 2 sides of nan.  One with garlic butter and one plain.  The meals did not come with anything so we had to order these side separate.  I am not sure how you would eat a curry dish without rice and nan so we had to order these sides.  While we were waiting TBG and I split and large Taj Mahal beer.  The beer list was small but did have a couple Indian beers.  The food came out fast and hot.  We actually didn't care for the grill.  The meat was kinda dry and just tasted like grilled meat.  The lamb curry however was great.  I loved it mixed with the rice and scooped up with nan.  The garlic nan was awesome.  The atmosphere was average, clean, outdated, not large.  The service was good and helpful.  The prices however were steep.  I thought it was overpriced since you had to order everything separate.  We needed the two orders of nan to finish the curry.  I would go back if this was the only Indian restaurant around, but since we have other options we probably will not.
